Matterhorn North Face Sunset

Hand printed Serigraph – Pencil on paper, black & white sketch 70x53 cm

Available as a Limited Edition of 500. Artist signed, hand printed Serigraphs on museum quality handmade Zerkall bütton paper.

The classic Zermatt view of the sun setting on the Matterhorn's north face, as seen in the spring, when there is often a combination of summer sun and winter snow. This brings out the features of the Horn's north face in the late evening and is one of most stunning times of the year to look up at this amazing pyramid of rock.

Serigraph Prints.

This is a Serigraph print of the original artwork. Great efforts to source paper of a quality suitable for this process. A German "bütton" (Mould-made) paper from the traditions-rich Zerkall paper mill has been selected to meet the highest possible standards.

The Matterhorn Sunset on the North Wall Edition is printed on a 270g Zerkall Litho VI Bütton paper. This "mould-made" paper is one of the best options for creating this type of Serigraph. It is 75% pure cotton, acid free, and does not use optical brighteners. It is museum grade — which means that is non-ageing and does not yellow over time (meeting the ISO 9706 standard).

Framing.

At the moment we do not offer any framing service. It is something we would like to offer a bit further down the line. Getting your print framed properly is an important part of displaying it to its full potential. As soon as we find companies that offer a quality product/service, we will provide the links to them here (Swiss, European, North American and Asian online framing companies).

The prints are made slightly oversized, to give you the most options in how to frame and display your print – allowing you to best match the space your have available.

The simplest option is to place the print in a frame without a Passpartout (English: Matted). Trim your print to the size of your frame.

Single or double Passpartout/Matts really bring the print to life. Another option is to cover the print with an appropriate plexiglass or real glass cover. The prints are of the highest quality (paper & ink), but if you're planning on hanging it in direct sunlight or are looking to protect it from things like dust, dirt, bugs, then you might want to look into some sort of UV protection with the plexiglass or real glass.

Introducing the Matterhorn Art Studios Project

The Concept

Our goal is to bring together a handful of talented artists/photographers and offer stunning and unique outdoor focused artwork to collect and display in your home or business.

We are working on our release website with an easy to use online store (this is our beta website).

Orignal Art

We will also be offering the option to purchase the original artwork. Please contact us if you are interested, we will get in touch and let you know the details.

Serigraph Prints

The term Serigraph literally means to draw through silk. A group of artists who later formed the National Serigraphic Society coined the word Serigraphy in the 1930s to differentiate the artistic application of screen printing from the industrial use of the process. Serigraphy is a combination word from the Latin word Seri (silk) and the Greek word graphein (to write or draw).

Art Prints

We are also planning on offering high quality offset prints for those of you who like the artwork, but are looking for a less expensive alternative to the hand printed, limited edition Serigraphs. These are a great option for decorating where a limited budget dictates over having a collectable piece of art. These will be printed with the "offset" printing technique, on quality paper.

Background

The Matterhorn Art Studios project was started in the summer of 2023 by Chris Banford and Jessica Banford-Zupan. Chris is a big fan of the outdoors and especially the mountains – having lived most of his life in Zermatt, he's an avid skier, cyclist and professional tandem paragliding pilot. Jessica is great with people and will be handling customer management.

Vision

We are working towards offering matching frames and Passpartouts/Mats, with reasonable shipping times and costs for Switzerland, Europe and North America. As we are located in Zermatt Switzerland, this will be our first focus.
